Here is the dining room on the day of our closing, 6/11/09:
Yes, the brown on the wall is actually dirt! This room was disgusting and I had to actually wash the walls numerous times before painting. It also served as our bedroom that night and housed our air mattress for a couple of weeks till our bed came! Notice the nice pink closing...do you think the whole room was that color at some point?
This was the second room that I painted and my favorite color in the whole house. It is Valspar's Woodlawn Grey....***Side Note: Elsa also has Woodlawn Grey in her house!***....and I absolutely LOVE it! Although this room was painted last summer, we only had our table in there till September when Dan surprised me with my sketch of the Rochester landscape (first mentioned here).
The next step was to turn the closet into a pantry. This was part of my Goals for 2010 list...under the category of reorganizing the kitchen cabinets. I finished this in January and was very excited about my new pantry!
So the last step was to do some decorating! At first I wanted to buy an area rug to add some color (Kelly's fabulous idea) but then remembered that our pets would have way too much fun destroying it!! So I decided to start with a corner plant stand. I remembered that Kelly and Cory had one in their kitchen of their first home. I asked her about it when I was home last week thinking that she could point me in the right direction. Well she did better than that! She said that they were selling theirs in the garage sale and that it was down in the basement. So she gave it to us and in doing so, gave me the extra motivation to get started! I was thinking that a spider plant would look really nice but when I mentioned it to Dan he started that he "HATED those plants. He wasn't just trying to mess with me, he really can't stand them." So needless to say, that idea was out. Lol....so I just asked Dan to pick up something that he liked at Lowe's. He actually found a great deal and it only cost us $2.00!! ....and I LOVE it....more than I would have liked the spider plant. Next, I added some boxes with candles and a picture to one wall, 1 picture on the next, and 2 on the other. I really like the way that it turned out.....it is my new favorite room. I make sure to tell Dan every time I walk through it!Here is the dining room 2/21/10:
Oh......we were having friends over for dinner that night which is why the table is set. I didn't set it for the picture...lol. On to the next room/project......the guest room/new hardwoods!
